What Is This?
Born out of the Waterloo Region Women’s Municipal Campaign School, this initiative seeks to create connections between women, trans, and non-binary folx looking to get involved in political life.
Whether you’re considering running for political office at all levels or want to get involved by supporting a female, trans, or non-binary candidate in their campaign … reach out!
Why Is This Necessary?
A strong team is integral to a candidate’s success. A strong team can also bring joy. People working together to bring positive change and to serve their communities is an inherently beautiful thing. It takes all kinds of people with all kinds of skills to make a campaign successful.
The Process (probably…)
You, The Interested Party, submit your name and email in the Get Involved Google Form. It also has a section for you to say what skills you’ve got that you would like to contribute to a candidate’s campaign.
A Candidate who identifies as a woman, trans, or a non-binary person can request access to this database as they are putting together a campaign team. The Kitchen Cabinet team (of one currently) will reach out to you first and connect you and the Candidate via email or your preferred communication channel.
You and the candidate chat and see if you two would like to work together.
That’s it!
What’s in a name?
The name “The Kitchen Cabinet” is a term used by Maryam Monsef, former MP of Peterborough-Kawartha in Ontario, Canada on March 6, 2022.
The idea is that a candidate’s campaign team can be a long term, supportive relationship. That the team is integral to a candidate’s success – not only in getting elected but also in thriving in their role.
